SUMMER SCHOOL FINANCIAL AID

The Financial Aid Office offers Harvard undergraduates who are receiving term-time need-based aid the opportunity to borrow a Harvard Loan to help with summer school costs. Please note that your term-time financial aid award does not carry over to the summer term and a separate application is required to apply for a summer school loan. If you have any questions, please contact Catharine Sweeney at csweeney@fas.harvard.edu.

    •  Harvard Loan Details:

A loan through the Harvard Loan Program is available to eligible undergraduates for summer school attendance. This institutional loan program has an interest rate of 5 percent. The interest is paid by Harvard during enrollment or in periods of deferment. There are no origination or insurance fees. Repayment starts six months after graduation or taking a leave, continues for up to ten years, and can be deferred for graduate school. The monthly payment will be $10.61 per thousand borrowed and there is a minimum $50 monthly repayment.

    •  Sudents Advancing Their Degree Date:

Harvard College financial aid students are funded for up to 8 semesters. If by attending summer school, you will spend 7 semesters or less at the College, you may be eligible to have a portion of your loan for summer school forgiven. The amount of loan forgiveness is based on your level of need. If you are advancing your degree date, upon entering your last semester of school, please contact your Financial Aid Officer.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

    • The standard summer earnings expectation is not waived due to summer study.
    • You must be receiving Harvard credit for the course or program.
    • Any loan money awarded is to be used solely for summer school and its associated costs. If you decide not to attend, please contact Catharine Sweeney to cancel the loan.
