Taking a Leave of Absence

Time spent away from Harvard, whether for a semester, a year or even longer, can be a valuable opportunity to gain new perspectives and experiences. The guidelines for securing a Leave of Absence from Harvard are outlined in the 2005-06 Handbook for Students. It is important that you review this section of the handbook and meet with your Senior Tutor to discuss the logistics of leaving school.

Financial Issues to Consider

Usually there are some financial issues that you might need to settle and/or consider as you leave Harvard. The "Leave of Absence Financial Checklist" contains specific information about financial aid and the repayment of your student loans, as well as information about what you will need to do in order to return to Harvard. This handout should be used to supplement the information provided by your Senior Tutor and the Handbook for Students.

Finally, we wish you the best of luck during your time away from Harvard. If we can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our office at (617) 495-1581.
