Appeal Process

Our policies are guided by the principle that student assistance should be based on individual need, and we are committed to making a Harvard education accessible and affordable to every student we admit. We treat each financial aid application on a case-by-case basis within the general guidelines of our program, and exercise flexibility in assessing the needs of individual families.

The Committee on Financial Aid meets on a regular basis through the year to discuss appeals from students and families. Any student with questions about financial aid or with new information to bring to our attention should contact his or her financial aid officer to request a review of the aid award.

Enrolled students who wish to request a review of your current aid award because of a change in projected current year income, please submit a Mid-Year Reconsideration Form in December or January.

It may also be helpful for you to complete a Cash Flow Statement so that the Committee on Financial Aid will have a fuller understanding of your financial situation.

From Monday, April 2nd through Tuesday, April 30th, the Financial Aid Office will have extended office hours from 8:00 am until 8 pm Eastern Time each weekday and will be available to answer your concerns. If you have difficulty reaching us during the normal 9:00 - 5:00 daytime hours, please try again during the 8:00 - 9:00 am or the 5:00 - 8:00 pm period when there should be fewer callers.
